Role Summary
This is a senior, hands-on role for an experienced Network Administrator who enjoys owning the stability, security, and performance of a multi-site IT environment. You will be the go-to person for network operations, server support, and escalated technical issues, working closely with the IT Manager and supporting the wider business.
The environment includes on-prem and cloud infrastructure, Microsoft 365, Windows Server, virtualisation, and complex networking across multiple locations. This role suits someone who takes accountability seriously, thinks ahead, and keeps systems running smoothly under pressure.
 
Responsibilities
    • Manage and maintain LAN, WAN, VPN, VLAN, Wi-Fi, and internet connectivity across all sites
    • Configure, support, and troubleshoot routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless infrastructure
    • Monitor network and server performance, uptime, and security
    • Administer Windows Server environments (2019/2022), Active Directory, file shares, and user access
    • Support Microsoft 365 services including Exchange, Azure Active Directory, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint
    • Manage virtual environments using Hyper-V, including resource optimisation
    • Maintain VPN connections (site-to-site and client-based)
    • Implement and maintain firewall rules, access controls, and security standards
    • Ensure backups are completed, tested, documented, and recoverable
    • Respond to and manage network or server emergencies and failover testing
    • Liaise with service providers, vendors, and contractors when required
    • Document configurations, changes, and procedures
    • Provide guidance and technical support to junior IT team members
    • Contribute to IT projects and infrastructure improvements across the group
 
Requirements
    • Matric
    • 5+ years’ experience in IT administration and networking
    • Relevant IT qualification such as a Diploma in IT Systems Administration (NQF Level 4/5)
    • Certifications such as A+, N+, Microsoft certification, MCITP, and Network Security+
    • Strong hands-on experience with:
        • TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing protocols
        • Firewalls, switches, and wireless technologies
        • Windows Server 2019/2022 and Windows 10/11
        • Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft 365
        • Hyper-V virtualisation
        • VPN technologies
        • Mikrotik RouterOS
    • Solid understanding of network security, backups, disaster recovery, and business continuity
    • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform under pressure
    • Detail-focused, reliable, and service-driven
    • A proactive self-starter who takes ownership and follows tasks through to completion
