A fast-growing South African fintech business is looking for an experienced Product Manager to own the strategy, roadmap, and execution of a micro-lending product suite. This is a high-impact role for someone who understands financial services, customer needs, Agile delivery, and the importance of building lending products that are both commercially strong and fully compliant.
You will sit at the centre of the product development team, turning market insight, regulatory requirements, and customer behaviour into lending experiences that are clear, useful, and built for real-world impact. This role is ideal for a Product Manager who can balance product vision with delivery detail, customer value with risk, and innovation with South African credit legislation.
Responsibilities
- Define and own the product vision, strategy, and multi-quarter roadmap for the micro-lending product suite
- Align product direction with business objectives, customer needs, market trends, and compliance requirements
- Identify market opportunities through competitor analysis, customer research, data insights, and regulatory monitoring
- Build and maintain business cases for new features, products, and strategic initiatives
- Prioritise the product backlog using data-driven frameworks such as RICE and MoSCoW
- Serve as the primary Product Owner within cross-functional Agile squads
- Write clear epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria for development teams
- Lead sprint planning, backlog grooming, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
- Make practical trade-off decisions around scope, quality, timelines, risk, and customer value
- Own the definition of done and ensure shipped features meet quality, compliance, and user experience standards
- Maintain a clear, healthy, and well-prioritised backlog to support delivery team momentum
- Work closely with Legal, Compliance, and Risk teams to embed regulatory requirements into product design
- Ensure the lending product suite remains aligned with the National Credit Act and relevant South African credit regulations
- Monitor updates from the National Credit Regulator and assess product impact where required
- Act as the voice of the customer while protecting compliance, risk, and business outcomes
- Engage stakeholders across business, technology, compliance, risk, operations, and customer-facing teams
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree is required
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Product Management
- Experience in fintech, micro-lending, banking, credit, or broader financial services
- Strong understanding of South African credit legislation, including the National Credit Act and National Credit Regulator requirements
- Proven Agile or Scrum Product Owner experience
- Experience writing epics, user stories, acceptance criteria, and backlog items
- Strong understanding of data-driven prioritisation frameworks such as RICE and MoSCoW
- Ability to own a product roadmap and translate strategy into delivery
- Strong commercial thinking with the ability to build business cases for product initiatives
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Confident working with Legal, Compliance, Risk, Technology, and business teams
- Strong decision-making ability with the confidence to manage trade-offs
- Customer-focused mindset with a clear understanding of responsible lending and compliant product design
