A great opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer who wants to work on real plant challenges and make a visible impact. This role is suited to someone who enjoys improving equipment, solving production problems, and driving better performance in a manufacturing environment. You will join an established industrial business where your work will directly support product quality, plant efficiency, equipment development, and continuous improvement. This is an urgent hire for someone who can bring solid engineering ability and relevant wire drawing process experience from day one.
 
Responsibilities
    • Investigate equipment and process issues impacting product quality, output, and plant performance
    • Identify and implement technical improvements to plant and machinery
    • Review machinery running costs, production costs, and maintenance spend to highlight improvement opportunities
    • Support the design of plant layouts, equipment upgrades, and production facilities
    • Assist with installation, commissioning, and production readiness for new equipment
    • Prepare production specifications for new machinery and equipment
    • Research new technologies and benchmark against local and international industry standards
    • Create or update training material for new processes, equipment, and technologies introduced into production
    • Compile reports on engineering investigations, production improvements, and technical findings
    • Review and improve procedures and work instructions in line with ISO and SABS requirements
    • Provide technical support to production and maintenance teams
    • Step into a more senior support role when required
    • Maintain health, safety, and environmental standards across engineering activities
 
Requirements
    • BEng or BSc in Mechanical Engineering
    • 2 to 6 years of experience in wire drawing processes and installations
    • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering, plant equipment, and process improvement
    • Experience investigating technical faults and improving machinery performance
    • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing and project planning
    • Good knowledge of production management, maintenance improvement, and cost analysis
    • Familiarity with ISO 9001, 14000, and 45000 standards
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, planning, and communication skills
    • GCC will be advantageous
