Responsibilities

    • Configure, maintain and troubleshoot routers, switches, access points, firewalls and related network hardware
    • Manage and support Mikrotik routers and RouterOS configurations
    • Monitor network performance, connectivity, uptime and security risks
    • Troubleshoot network outages, slow connectivity, routing issues, firewall rules, VPN access and wireless problems
    • Maintain secure connectivity between branches, remote users, service providers and cloud environments
    • Support secure remote access for staff and contractors
    • Administer server environments including Active Directory, file permissions and Windows Server 2019/2022
    • Support Microsoft 365 services including Exchange, Azure Active Directory, Teams, OneDrive and SharePoint
    • Support Hyper-V virtual environments
    • Manage backups, recovery processes, patching, firmware updates and failover testing
    • Identify infrastructure and network risks early to reduce downtime and improve security
    • Assist with network upgrades, infrastructure improvements, hardware replacements and migrations
    • Work with vendors and service providers where required
    • Keep network diagrams, configurations, procedures and documentation accurate and up to date
    • Guide junior team members on infrastructure and network-related tasks

Requirements
    • 5+ years’ experience in IT infrastructure, network administration or senior technical support
    • Strong hands-on networking experience across TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, VPNs, firewalls, switches and wireless infrastructure
    • Proven experience configuring and troubleshooting routers, switches, access points and firewalls
    • Strong working knowledge of Mikrotik RouterOS
    • Experience supporting multi-site network environments would be highly advantageous
    • Solid understanding of network security, remote access, firewall rules and secure connectivity
    • Experience with network and infrastructure monitoring tools
    • Solid experience with Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft 365 environments
    • Good knowledge of Windows Server 2019/2022 and Windows 10/11
    • Experience with Hyper-V virtualisation
    • Good understanding of backups, disaster recovery, business continuity and IT security
    • A+ and N+ plus Microsoft certification or engineering certification preferred
    • MCITP and Network Security+ will be advantageous
    • Diploma in IT Systems Administration, NQF Level 4/5, preferred
    • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving and communication skills
    • Able to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities and stay thorough
    • Reliable, organised, proactive and comfortable taking ownership

Ideal Fit
This role will suit someone who enjoys being close to the network layer of IT. Someone who can look at a connectivity issue, follow the trail properly, and not just restart things until the lights come back on.

You should be hands-on, practical and confident working in an onsite environment where infrastructure reliability matters.
