Director: Risk Advisory Services (Internal Audit)

Manager ~ Finance
Cape Town – Western Cape – South Africa

Director: Risk Advisory Services (Internal Audit)
Salary: R1.9m – R2.5m per annum
Area: Cape Town
Type: Onsite

About the Role
This one’s for someone who’s done the technical work, built the team, and is now ready to build something bigger. A leading professional services firm is looking for a Director to lead and grow its Risk Advisory Services practice in Cape Town, and there’s a genuine partner path attached to it.

If you’ve spent years mastering governance, risk and internal audit, and you’re now looking for the room to bring in business, shape strategy and build a name for yourself in the market, this is worth a proper look. Partnership here isn’t a vague promise. It’s tied to what you bring in. Generate R15m in fees and you’re in line for it.

Key Responsibilities
    • Set the direction for the Risk Advisory Services practice and drive its growth in line with the firm’s wider goals
    • Act as a trusted advisor to clients on governance, risk, compliance and internal audit
    • Keep engagements sharp: on budget, on time, and aligned to proper risk frameworks and regulatory standards
    • Build and mentor a team that does good work and wants to stick around
    • Go out and win business. New clients, bigger portfolios, and a clear track record of doing it yourself, not just overseeing it

What You’ll Need
Qualifications
    • Honours degree in internal audit, accounting or finance
    • CIA (or equivalent) fully qualified
    • CISA is a bonus, not a requirement
Experience
    • 12+ years in risk advisory or internal audit, with 5 to 6 of those in a senior leadership role
    • Solid grip on risk frameworks and regulatory compliance
    • A track record of running complex client engagements, not just supporting them
    • Strong communication and negotiation skills, the kind that hold up in a room full of stakeholders
    • Proven ability to bring in new business. This is non-negotiable for this role

The Person
Someone with sound judgement, real emotional intelligence, and the resilience to handle pressure without losing perspective. You’ll need to influence people, build relationships that last, and lead a team that trusts you. Commercially sharp, detail-focused, and comfortable holding confidential information with discretion.

Why This Role Is Worth Your Time
This is a genuine leadership seat, not a lateral move with a new title. You’ll have real autonomy to shape the practice, real support to grow it, and a partnership path that rewards what you actually deliver, not just how long you’ve been around.
