Cape Town – Western Cape – South Africa

Civil Engineer (BIM & Digital Engineering)
Salary: To be confirmed
Area: Cape Town (Century City)
Type: Onsite

Role Summary
This role is ideal for a Civil Engineer who wants to apply real-world construction experience to modern, software-driven engineering tools. You will sit at the intersection of civil engineering and digital delivery, providing practical engineering input into the development of software that integrates directly with BIM platforms.

You will work closely with software and product teams to ensure civil engineering workflows, schedules and construction realities are accurately reflected in digital tools used on complex infrastructure projects. The role suits someone who enjoys shaping how engineering work is done, not just delivering projects the traditional way.

Responsibilities
    • Provide civil engineering expertise to support the development of BIM-integrated software tools
    • Work with software and product teams to design features that model real-world civil works such as grading, drainage and infrastructure components
    • Advise on construction methods, materials, safety standards and regulatory requirements
    • Develop and review project schedules covering procurement, site preparation, construction phases and handover
    • Contribute to detailed civil project plans including cost estimates, resourcing and risk management
    • Review BIM models and simulations to identify constructability issues and clashes
    • Translate engineering requirements into clear technical inputs for development teams
    • Stay informed on developments in BIM, digital construction and sustainable engineering practices
    • Support testing of software features from a civil engineering perspective
    • Create documentation, guidance material and support adoption by end users

Requirements
Essential:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience working on civil engineering projects
    • Practical exposure to construction environments and project delivery
    • At least 2 years’ experience working with BIM or digital modelling tools
    • Strong understanding of the civil project lifecycle from planning through to completion
    • Experience with project scheduling tools such as Primavera P6 or MS Project
    • Ability to communicate engineering concepts clearly to non-engineering stakeholders
    • Comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams
Advantageous:
    • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering
    • Professional Engineer registration
    • Experience with BIM platforms such as Revit, Civil 3D or Navisworks
    • Exposure to BIM integration or APIs
    • Familiarity with scripting or programming concepts such as Python or Dynamo
    • Knowledge of sustainable construction or green building standards
    • Previous involvement in software-driven or digital engineering initiatives

If you are a civil engineer who wants to influence how technology is used in construction and infrastructure delivery, this role offers a rare opportunity to do exactly that. Apply with your CV and a short note outlining your experience and availability.
